https://journals.joninstitute.org/index.php/michelle/article/view/89

Environmental health is one of the fundamental aspects in efforts to prevent infectious diseases. A clean and healthy environment is the main fortress in breaking the chain of transmission of various diseases originating from water, air, food, or vectors such as mosquitoes and rats. Diseases such as dengue fever, diarrhea, leptospirosis, malaria, and tuberculosis are closely related to environmental conditions. Therefore, maintaining and improving the quality of the environment is a strategic step in efforts to promote and prevent public health. Environmental factors such as poor sanitation, lack of access to clean water, garbage accumulation, and low air quality are the main causes of the development of pathogenic microorganisms. Environmental health includes clean water management, waste treatment, disease vector control, and environmentally friendly spatial planning. Interventions on these factors have been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of infectious diseases, especially in densely populated areas and areas with low levels of cleanliness. The role of the community, government, and health workers is very important in developing an effective environmental health system. Education about the importance of cleanliness, provision of adequate sanitation facilities, and regular environmental monitoring need to be improved. In addition, regulations that support the enforcement of healthy environmental policies also contribute greatly to maintaining environmental quality to remain at a standard that is safe for human health. With the integration of scientific approaches, government policies, and active community participation, environmental health can be used as the front line in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Collaborative efforts across sectors and based on scientific evidence will strengthen the overall public health resilience system. In the context of sustainable development, improving environmental quality not only has an impact on disease prevention, but also improves the overall quality of life.
Nur ChabibahNur KhairiyahPuji Hastuti

https://journals.joninstitute.org/index.php/michelle/article/view/90

Health promotion is a key strategy in disease prevention and improving the quality of life of the community. This study aims to evaluate the role of health promotion in preventing various infectious and non-infectious diseases at the individual and community levels. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative descriptive approach, reviewing various scientific articles, research reports, and relevant health policies. The results of the study indicate that effective health promotion, through education, behavioral change, and increasing public awareness, can reduce the prevalence of diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, and respiratory tract infections. Promotion interventions carried out by health workers, especially in primary care facilities such as Community Health Centers, have been shown to increase community compliance with healthy lifestyles, including diet, physical activity, and avoidance of risk factors. In conclusion, health promotion plays a vital role in disease prevention and needs to be a priority in the preventive health service system. Cross-sectoral support and active community participation are needed to ensure the success of sustainable health promotion programs.
Nur Arifatus SholihahFitriah FitriahAndi Ilham

2025-07-292025-07-29101712Processed Foods and Their Impact on Body Health
https://journals.joninstitute.org/index.php/michelle/article/view/91

Processed foods have become a dominant part of the consumption patterns of modern soci ety along with the increasing practical lifestyle and urbanization. Products such as fast food, frozen food, and packaged snacks are widely chosen because they are efficient and easily accessible. However, excessive consumption of these types of foods can have serious impacts on body health, especially if not balanced with a healthy diet and sufficient physical activity. Various studies have shown that processed foods generally contain high levels of sugar, salt, and saturated fat, as well as additives such as preservatives and synthetic colors. These contents contribute to increasing cases of obesity, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. In addition, some types of ultra-processed foods are also associated with metabolic disorders and chronic inflammation in the body. However, processed foods do not always have negative impacts. If chosen carefully and consumed within reasonable limits, processed foods can provide benefits such as ease of storage, nutrient fortification, and help with food security. Therefore, it is important for the public to understand the nutritional content of the products they consume and to apply the principles of balanced nutrition in everyday life. Increasing nutritional literacy, stricter food regulation policies, and ongoing public education are needed to reduce the negative impacts of processed food consumption. With the right understanding, people can make healthier decisions in choosing food to maintain quality of life and prevent chronic diseases in the future.
Beby Kusuma NaninuArmen KukioZahra Fitri

https://journals.joninstitute.org/index.php/michelle/article/view/93

A balanced diet is the main foundation in maintaining and improving the quality of individual health. In the modern era marked by easy access to fast food and a sedentary lifestyle, people are increasingly susceptible to various non-communicable diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. A proper diet that meets the body's needs not only plays a role in maintaining the physiological function of body organs, but also in supporting mental health, metabolism, and overall body resistance. This article aims to provide comprehensive guidance on a balanced diet as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, by examining the components, basic principles, and benefits of implementing a balanced diet. This research was conducted using a literature study method on various scientific sources, such as nutrition journals, reference books, policies from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and publications from the World Health Organization (WHO). The results of the study show that implementing a balanced diet supported by regular physical activity and clean living behavior can provide long-term benefits in the form of improving the quality of life, preventing degenerative diseases, and maintaining ideal body weight. Challenges such as lack of nutritional literacy, instant eating habits, and fast lifestyles need to be addressed through public education, public policy, and cross-sector collaboration. Thus, understanding and implementing a balanced diet is the main key to building a healthy and productive society.
Bella Adik Ayu RatmonoAchmad WidodoAnindya Mar'atus Sholikhah
